Springtime

Spring has well and truly arrived. At least in this part of the world. The grass is growing, birds are singing, squirrels are playing, and of a night I hear frogs and other creatures coming out. Today the sun is shining again and it is a beautiful 18°C. Baby animals are everywhere you turn, little lambs cropping up in the fields. Daffodils and tulips are popping up everywhere. Daffodils are my favourite flower and I just love seeing them all over, covering roundabouts, on traffic islands as you drive down the road, and in everyone's gardens. Their bright yellow sunshiny colour just fills you with joy and peace. Is there anything more beautiful than Spring?

I do have to admit that I also have a soft spot for the crisp white and freshness of Winter. And also for the rich colours of Autumn. But Spring is just pure joy! Full of colour, the miracle of birth, and life in general. And with the April showers that make everything fresh and give life to the new flowers, what better time is there to be alive?

Spring is also the season of love. Scientifically, it is the dopamine that is released in the brain that turns your thoughts to love. All those new colours, new smells, new sounds, and all that chemical being released, gives you such a feeling of euphoria, it is time for love. But for most of us, we just feel the love.

So go forth, and enjoy this extremely beautiful season. I am going to leave you with a wonderful poem. It is by the famous Elizabethan English poet Thomas Nashe (1567-1601). I think it just sums up Spring for me.

  1. I love daffodils too!!! my fav flower. They are so preposterous with their little yellow trumpets telling the world to look at them. Thank you for giving me such a wonderful vision of your spring. Down here in Sydney summer is fighting to hold on, but some nights now there is a crispness to the air as Autumn starts to win the fight.
